Report: Whether Alexander Isak will be fit for Newcastle United's Champions League decider vs…

Newcastle United need Alexander Isak to be fit for their final game of the season against Everton.

The Magpies know that a win over the Toffees will be enough to guarantee a top five finish and qualify for the Champions League.

It is going to be an extremely tense afternoon inside St James’ Park, but Newcastle are in a strong position going into the final game of the season.

The big concern heading into Newcastle United’s game against Everton is the fitness of Alexander Isak.

He missed Newcastle’s loss against Arsenal due to a groin injury, with Callum Wilson taking his place.

Wilson struggled, while there is speculation that Isak could have an operation this summer to rid him of this recurring groin issue.

Newcastle United receive Alexander Isak injury boost

But while surgery is an option for the 25-year-old, that does not necessarily mean that his 2024/25 season is over.

According to the Telegraph, Isak will be back for Newcastle United’s game against Everton on Sunday.

They state that had the game against Arsenal been a must-win then the striker probably would have been risked.

Instead, he was not in the squad at all as Newcastle United now begin their preparations for their final game of the season. This one is a must-win, with three points enough to guarantee Champions League qualification.

What Eddie Howe said about Alexander Isak’s injury

While Isak was not in the Newcastle United squad to face Arsenal, he had travelled with the team down to London.

That is according to Eddie Howe, with the Newcastle United manager admitting that a late decision was made regarding his fitness.

“He trained yesterday [Saturday] fine,” he told Sky Sports.

“In the afternoon he felt a bit of stiffness as we travelled down to London. So we arranged a scan for him and it showed a little inflammation in his groin. Nothing serious but enough to keep him out. Very late [call].”

Newcastle erred on the side of caution with Isak, and will feel justified in their decision if he is fit enough to be the difference against Everton next weekend.

The Magpies desperately missed him at the Emirates Stadium, but that will not matter if he ends up being fit enough to propel the club back into the Champions League in the final game of the season.

With 27 goals in all competitions, this has already been the best campaign of Isak’s career.
