As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool have positioned themselves at the forefront of the pursuit for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, though significant hurdles remain in securing the German prodigy’s signature.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, fresh off a stellar season with 16 goals and 15 assists across all competitions, has become one of Europe’s most coveted talents, with Bayern Munich and Manchester City also vying for his services

Liverpool’s interest in Wirtz has intensified following direct engagement with the player’s representatives.

Reports reveal that the Reds orchestrated a meeting in Blackpool, facilitated by a private jet journey from Germany, to outline their vision for Wirtz

Leverkusen has reportedly set an asking price in the region of €150 million (£126 million) for Bayern Munich, while potentially accepting a slightly reduced figure of around €100 million (£84 million) from clubs outside Germany.

It is believed that Leverkusen would much prefer to sell aboard than allow Wirtz to go to a domestic rival in Bayern Munich.

His technical ability, vision, and movement between the lines have made him one of the most sought-after playmakers in world football.

Now, German outlet Kicker.De has come out to report that Liverpool have now submitted a preliminary offer for Florian Wirtz, although so have Manchester City and Bayern.

German journalist Stephan von Nocks phrases it as “concrete applications” but does not go into further details:

“Finally, the preparatory work of the creative artist has been completed.”

“With Manchester City, Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich, three clubs have submitted their concrete applications.”

“The international and his parents, who act as his advisors, have exchanged views with the management of all three clubs.”

“Now Wirtz, who has not yet extended his contract, which runs until 2027, has to decide. This has still not happened.”

The allure of Anfield is bolstered by Liverpool’s recent Premier League triumph and their ambitious recruitment strategy, which includes a near-complete £30 million deal for Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong.

This dual approach signals Liverpool’s intent to capitalize on Leverkusen’s post-Xabi Alonso exodus, though Wirtz’s valuation undoubtedly complicate things.

Landing Florian Wirtz would make a bold statement about Liverpool’s intent, as the German international is one of Europe’s most coveted young stars and is being pursued by several top clubs.

With UEFA Nations League matches approaching, his potential move is set to remain a prominent talking point throughout the summer.
