Liverpool have won the 2024-25 Premier League title, with manager Arne Slot securing a perch-reclaiming 20th domestic league title in his first season in charge of England’s most successful club.
To defend that title, Slot says the team need to get even better. That will come both by improving players already at the club as well as by making significant moves in the summer transfer market.
“I think we can find one or two extra weapons this team doesn’t have,” Slot noted. “Maybe, maybe, by using the transfer market. That is what we are trying to achieve and it will make us only stronger.
“We saw [Manchester] City go out and spend £200m in just the last transfer window. All of them will now. But apart from in the transfer window, we can also look to improve certain aspects ourselves.”
On that front, Liverpool already look well on their way, with moves to bring in right back Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and left back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth both advancing well.
There has also been a recent uptick in rumoured interest around playmaking number ten Florian Wirtz, though the young German superstar remains favoured to end up at Bayern Munich this summer.
Still, both the advanced moves and the solidly reported interest speak to the club’s seriousness of intent when it comes to bringing in the signings Slot believes he needs—and doing it quickly.
“You could argue if I needed to have rotated a bit more between November and March to be fresher,” Slot added. “But all the times I’ve rotated a bit too much that didn’t lead to us being successful.”
Hopefully, having spent a year with the squad and now with signings being made that should bring in players that fit the template he’s seeking, that can change for Slot and the Reds in 2025-26.
