Leeds United are considering a potential swoop to sign Callum Wilson on a free transfer after he leaves Newcastle next month.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 33-year-old has been identified as an option for Daniel Farke.
His Premier League experience and goalscoring prowess have placed him among the leading candidates for the position ahead of their return to the top tier.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Leeds want to sign two new strikers, as Leicester’s Jamie Vardy is also on their radar.
Vardy, 38, and Wilson, 33, are seen as experienced options alongside whom another forward could be allowed to develop and grow into the Premier League.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 13 April that Leeds are prioritising signing a striker as they do not believe Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe are Premier League players.

Leeds plot Callum Wilson swoop after Newcastle exit
Brown told Football Insider in December that Wilson will leave Newcastle upon the expiry of his contract as there are no plans to renew his terms.
Now, the former scout who remains very well-connected within the game after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted Leeds have been placed on alert by Wilson’s availability and could now make a move.
“Leeds are considering a move to sign Callum Wilson,” he told Football Insider.
“Callum Wilson is a very decent player, especially at his best.
“He’s a big strong unit, not afraid to battle with defenders, and always puts a shift in.
“How much of that he can do and how often he can do it given his injury situation is always going to be a concern, but Leeds will have looked into it.
“Given the fact he’s available on a free, he would be a good asset for a team like Leeds.
“He’s very experienced in the Premier League and has scored goals at the top level for Newcastle and for England, which is always a valuable asset to have.
“So they will make a decision about whether they think he’s still capable and then make a move.”

Beto update emerges at Elland Road after Everton exit claim
Wilson and Vardy are not the only strikers who have been identified as potential additions at Elland Road, with a number of players on their radar.
Brown told Football Insider on 13 May that Leeds want to sign Everton striker Beto as Farke aims to bolster his squad in attacking areas.
However, there are doubts about whether he is the right man to consistently lead the line in the top tier as Leeds continue to eye multiple options.
This comes after Football Insider revealed in January that Everton were looking to sell Beto in a bid to raise funds which would be reinvested into the playing squad.
