In a bid to restart the career of several struggling stars, this season Manchester United have agreed big-name loan deals for the trio of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

Whilst Sancho has struggled to find his feet with Chelsea, with the London-based club looking to pay a £5 million penalty fee to get out of their obligation to buy, Rashford and Antony have thrived.

Antony in particular has come into his own during his loan spell in Spain, helping Real Betis fight their way to the UEFA Conference League final against Chelsea.

The winger joined Betis back in January and has since grabbed eight goals and five assists in 24 games for the Spanish side.

Whilst his loan spell ends at the end of the season, it’s been understood that Betis are keen to extend his time with the club beyond the summer.

For some time now Betis have been looking at options to keep hold of Antony, with both a permanent move and another season-long loan being explored.

Whilst a permanent move seems off the cards right now due to Antony’s excessive wages, another temporary move is a real potential.

Now, Estadio Deportivo has reported that Betis have made formal contact with United to discuss extending Antony’s stay with the Spanish club.

Betis’ sporting director, Manu Fajardo, commented: “Yes, yes, there already have been. There is a close and respectful relationship with Manchester United, and we are in constant contact with them.”

He continued: “We have been talking with them since his arrival. We have to take great care of this asset, so that big clubs and players of this calibre continue to trust us.

“We will give everything so that players like Antony can join our club.”

Fajardo’s desire and passion to retain Antony speaks to his contribution to the club and how vital they see the Brazilian is in their ranks.
