Crystal Palace missing two key players ahead of Wolves clash

Wharton and Eagles skipper Marc Guehi missed the celebration party following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City as they were in hospital.

Wharton was concussed after he was hit on the back of the head by a shot from Kevin de Bruyne.

Defender Guehi was able to lift the trophy at Wembley but then went to hospital with a badly swollen eye.

Guehi will miss Tuesday’s visit of Wolves in the Premier League, but he could make the final-day visit to Liverpool.

“Adam and Marc will definitely miss tomorrow’s game,” said boss Oliver Glasner.

“Adam will also miss the Liverpool game, he had a concussion at the end.

“Marc, let’s see. Maybe for Liverpool. But both players will miss tomorrow’s game.”

There will be a third absentee at Selhurst Park, with Glasner confirming he will now ditch the lucky black jumper he wore at Wembley.

“It’s already in the washing machine, its job is done,” he added.

“You won’t see it tomorrow. It goes back into the drawer. It won’t be in use at football anymore. I’ll wear it for leisure.”

The quick turnaround means Palace’s players, including goalscorer Eberechi Eze and penalty hero Dean Henderson, have not trained since the final.

They still have something to play for, needing a point from their last two matches for a record Premier League tally, but Glasner admits he needs to find the right balance of motivation and fitness when he picks his team.

“We will have a meeting and talk about it, because it’s nothing you can ask somebody to do, or say ‘you have to’,” said Glasner.

“We have to find the right commitment altogether: how we want to enter this week, and especially how we want to end this week – with two games to play – and we will talk about it, then let’s see how well we can do this.”
