“Concerns About Age Or Upside Possibilities”: Marquette Golden Eagles Kam Jones Slips Out Of…

Marquette Golden Eagles star Kam Jones has been predicted in many recent NBA mock drafts to be selected in the first-round of the 2025 NBA Draft. With the NBA Draft combine concluding in Chicago, Illinois, things have changed for Jones.

Some players have climbed up draft boards and some players have dropped in draft boards. There is a possibility that Jones may fall out of the first-round in the 2025 NBA Draft. However, he could be a player that NBA teams are interested in drafting during the second-round of the 2025 NBA Draft. The former Golden Eagles star player was a scoring machine for Marquette during the 2024-2025 college basketball season.

Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report created his latest 2025 NBA Mock Draft after the NBA scouting combine. For the first time in a while, Jones was not a first-round selection in the latest edition of the 2025 NBA mock draft. Wasserman has the former Golden Eagles guard going in the second-round. He has the Brooklyn Nets drafting him 36th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Wasserman said,

“Kam Jones didn’t have his best game in Marquette’s NCAA tournament loss to New Mexico, but he’d entered it averaging 28.0 points over his previous three.

The departure of Tyler Kolek helped unlock his playmaking this year, a key development for a 6’5″ guard who has 300-plus career threes and high-level finishing efficiency every season.

Concerns about age or upside possibilities should become less alarming late outside the 20s. Teams just looking for another ball-handler or additional firepower should start to consider Jones once the younger, flashier names are off the board.”

Wasserman compared Jones to Malik Monk. The Nets will have several selections in the 2025 NBA Draft. Jones is 6’5″ and weighs 200 lbs. During the 2024-2025 season with Marquette, he averaged 19.2 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 5.9 APG, 0.3 BPG, and 1.4 SPG, along with shooting 48.3% from the field.

Brooklyn was 12th in the Eastern Conference last season with a 26-56 record. The Nets are a team that is trying to rebuild through the NBA Draft. Jones would be the third player from Marquette in the last two seasons that would be drafted in the second-round of the NBA Draft.
