There is one certainty in the NBA: even decades after his retirement, anything related to Michael Jordan still gets a lot of attention.
The latest news about Jordan comes from Dan Hajducky of ESPN, who reported on a jersey that just sold for an eye-popping amount at auction.
“A uniform Michael Jordan wore for 17 games with the Chicago Bulls during the 1992-93 NBA season was sold for $2.623 million, including buyer’s premium, at Heritage Auctions,” Hajducky wrote. “Photo-matching services MeiGray and Sports Investors Authentication noted that this is the only Jordan uniform of which they’re aware of to be matched to any season of the first Bulls three-peat.”
As noted by Hajducky, this is a very special uniform because it is the only one on the market from any season during Chicago’s first historic three-peat in the Finals.
During that incredible 1992-93 season, Jordan led the entire NBA in scoring for the seventh straight year.
It was a highlight of his career and one of the most dominant and impressive seasons in NBA history.
ESPN reported that the Jordan jersey was worn during 11 games from November to March of the 1992-93 season.
Jordan hasn’t played basketball in years, but anything related to him is still a huge prize for NBA collectors and fans.
The problem is that there are fewer and fewer items from his time in the league.
As the years go on, collectors are having a harder time locating things to buy from Jordan’s career.
That means that finds such as this one will be more valuable and fetch an even higher price tag because they are becoming rarer.
