Louisville adds NBA Academy Africa standout Mouhamed Camara to roster

Pat Kelsey has added another player to the University of Louisville basketball roster, and this one comes via the NBA Academy Africa.

Mouhamed Camara, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward, is a native of Dakar, Senegal, and has committed to Louisville.

Camara, who has been with the NBA Academy Africa program since 2023, is expected to arrive on campus and enroll in summer school next month. He is the sixth newcomer on the roster for Kelsey's second season as the head coach at U of L.

A standout for NBA Academy Africa this past season, Camara averaged 10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.8 steals, and 2.5 blocked shots a game. He shot over 60 percent from the field, including 37.5 percent from three-point range on 2.7 attempts a game.

In his first year with the NBA Academy Africa team, he averaged 3.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists a game. The NBA Academy Africa is one of four NBA academies around the world and is a training center in Saly, Senegal, for the top high-school age prospects from across Africa.

Camara will be the second NBA Academy Africa player to suit up for the Cardinals. Emmanuel Okorafor joined the Louisville roster in January of 2023 and played in five games that season, then played in 20 games during the 2023-24 season for the Cardinals.

The only other school that Camara had been linked to in the recruiting process was UCF. He took an official visit to the campus in early March.

As the sixth newcomer on the roster, Camara joins five-star point guard Mikel Brown Jr., and German standout Sananda Fru as newcomers via the signing class. The Cardinals also added Isaac McNeely, Ryan Conwell, and Adrian Wooley out of the transfer portal.

U of L is still expected to sign at least one more prospect.
