What Ross Barkley has now revealed about Duncan Ferguson shows just how much he loves Everton

Everton welcomed a number of former players to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, as they bid farewell to the Grand Old Lady.

The Toffees defeated Southampton 2-0 in the final ever game at Goodison Park, and it made for a truly special atmosphere.

Southampton fans were in awe of the Goodison roar, with many taking to social media to wax lyrical about just how loud Everton fans were.

Wayne Rooney, Tim Cahill, Peter Reid, Duncan Ferguson, and many more were in attendance to draw the curtain on Everton’s home for the last 133 years.

Ferguson was lively on the afternoon as he took the mic on multiple occasions to fire up the supporters in the post-match celebrations.

And now, Ross Barkley has shared something about Ferguson, which amplifies just how much he loves the club.

The Everton academy graduate, who now plies his trade at Aston Villa, clearly still has a special connection to the club despite being seven years removed from his exit.

Barkley has now posted a video of Ferguson celebrating with Everton fans on his Instagram, with the caption: “Some man big dunc, used to drop me off from training when I was 14.”

It shows just how dedicated Ferguson was towards Everton when he worked as an academy coach before stepping up to the first team.

He wouldn’t have needed to do that for Barkley, but the fact that he did just evinces what a proper servant he’s been during his playing and coaching career on Merseyside.

What’s next for Duncan Ferguson?

Ferguson has been out of work since October, when he was sacked by Inverness Caledonian, who had just entered administration after a financial crisis.

“I’ve done the very best I can for my club and for my players,” Ferguson said at the time.

“I’ve always tried to support my players behind the scenes and they all know that. And that’s the most important thing for me.”

Since then, the former Everton interim has been putting himself out there to land his next job in the dugout.

There have been some suggestions that Ferguson could join Rangers as part of Davide Ancelotti’s staff, with Carlo’s son rumoured to join the Scottish giants.

Ferguson has revealed he’s open to joining Ancelotti at the Brazil national team.
