Davide Ancelotti may have other plans as Rangers look to appoint the Real Madrid coach as their next permanent manager.

Barry Ferguson has departed Ibrox after taking charge of his final game as interim boss against Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday (17 May), which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Gers’ chief executive officer Patrick Stewart and incoming sporting director Kevin Thelwell are considering Davide as they search for a new head coach.

The 35-year-old will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, and he could potentially reject the Glaswegian outfit to go elsewhere.

Rangers set for Ancelotti rejection for Brazil job

Carlo Ancelotti will become the next Brazil manager, and his son Davide will probably join him until the 2026 World Cup, Alex Ashmore says.

The SportyTV journalist and freelance pundit for Real Madrid TV has predicted that the 35-year-old will remain a part of his father’s backroom staff at the Selecao for the upcoming major international tournament.

Ashmore believes the Italian coach, who possesses a great tactical mind, would be an excellent appointment for the Gers, but he could potentially reject a move to Ibrox.

Speaking to Ibrox News, the journalist said: “He’s obviously learned a lot under his father (one of the best managers of all time) and had lots of experience at different clubs, but is yet to work as a head coach.

“He’d be a good appointment if Rangers do decide to go with him, but I believe he’ll need time to adapt to the pressure and life as a head coach, especially at a club like Rangers, who have such a strong fan base.

“He’s built a certain level of independence, though, with the responsibilities he’s had over his coaching career, and has a great tactical mind. He’s similar to his dad in that he’s a calm individual, too.

“If I were to make a prediction, I’d say he’ll go to the World Cup.”

Thelwell and Stewart will need to convince Ancelotti

Davide would be an astute appointment at Ibrox, and despite a lack of experience as a first-team head coach, he’s been part of some successful teams at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises’ prospective takeover could potentially make the Light Blues an attractive prospect for someone like the 35-year-old.

After struggling in recent years, the Bears will be looking to compete with Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season.

With the Glaswegian outfit set to play in the Champions League qualifying rounds, Davide may have the opportunity to do something special in Europe with Rangers, but whether he’ll be appointed remains to be seen.
