England will compete in the UEFA European U19 Championship next month after progressing through qualification in impressive form.

Will Antwi’s side secured their spot in the tournament by beating Lithuania, Bulgaria, Wales and Portugal, with only Belgium and Turkey managing to hold them to draws.

They now face a tough group stage featuring Norway, Germany and the Netherlands – with only the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals.

Antwi has named a strong 20-man squad packed with Premier League academy talent as England look to go deep in the tournament.

Ethan Wheatley named in England U19 squad for Euros

Among those selected is Manchester United striker Ethan Wheatley, who will be looking to continue his rise on the international stage.

Wheatley featured in three of the qualification matches, starting in wins over Bulgaria and Wales – netting his first U19 goal against the latter.

As well as coming off the bench against Lithuania.

He’ll compete for minutes with Chelsea’s Shim Mheuka, who was Antwi’s preferred starter during qualification.

The 19-year-old became Manchester United’s 250th academy graduate to appear for the first team when he came on as a substitute in the 4-2 Premier League win over Sheffield United in April 2024.

He has made just one senior appearance this season, replacing Joshua Zirkzee in a League Cup win over Leicester City.

A January loan move to Walsall was intended to provide him regular football but didn’t work out.

The deal was cut short before he returned to help United in their Premier League 2 play-off run.

Wheatley scored three goals in that campaign before United were knocked out by Manchester City in the semi-final.

The club remain confident in his potential, having handed him a new contract in March to keep him at Old Trafford beyond the summer.
