Inter Milan midfielder wanted by Manchester United

Manchester United’s summer rebuild is expected to be ruthless – and it starts with adding proven quality.

Ruben Amorim is preparing for sweeping changes at Old Trafford.

However doubts remain over how attractive the club will be to top targets if they fail to secure Champions League football.

The Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur offers a lifeline.

Win, and United book their UCL ticket.

Lose, and questions will be asked about the calibre of players they can realistically sign.

In midfield, United are eager to balance youth with leadership.

Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte are highly rated, and seen as midfielders for the present and future.

But United need experience alongside them now.

The same applies in midfield, where Amorim wants options who can bring energy, goals and tactical discipline.

All of which Davide Frattesi offers.

Manchester United monitoring Davide Frattesi to balance midfield

The Inter Milan midfielder is being closely monitored by United, with journalist Matteo Moretto reporting that the club made an initial approach in recent weeks.

Frattesi is not considered untouchable by Inter and is open to a move if it means more minutes and a more central role.

“There is a good chance that Frattesi will change teams in the summer, looking for more protagonism,” Moretto said on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, via FCInter1908.

“If there is the right offer, it would be considered.

“He is certainly not among Inter’s untransferables.”

Napoli have been pushing hardest so far to steal a march on rivals.

But Atletico Madrid and Roma are also circling.

As things stand, United are in the early stages of contact, with Moretto claiming it’s “stuck at a first phone call, a first survey.”

That said, interest from Old Trafford may well intensify after the Europa League final.

With Amorim wanting to add players who can carry out his high-pressing system and inject pace through midfield, Frattesi fits the bill.

Still just 25, the Italian has Champions League experience and an eye for goal.

He would very much bring a new dimension to a midfield that has lacked spark for large spells of the season.

It remains to be seen whether United will push beyond their current level of contact.

But if they do, Frattesi could become a pivotal figure in Amorim’s new-look side.
