From Spain: Liverpool 'fighting' to sign 'unstoppable' £200,000-a-week striker in £71m deal

Liverpool are reportedly battling it out with Chelsea for Benjamin Sesko but will have to cough up around £71m for the RB Leipzig striker.

The Reds are expected to be in the market for a new frontman this summer, with Darwin Nunez likely headed for the Anfield exit door. The Uruguayan is reportedly available for sale and could be sold at a cut price, with Atletico Madrid showing interest.

Sesko is one of Europe's most celebrated young forwards, who has long been linked with a Premier League move. The 21-year-old reportedly turned down a move to Arsenal last summer because of concerns over his game time but he'd likely be Arne Slot's first-choice number nine.

Liverpool In Race With Chelsea For Sesko

Sesko

Spanish outlet Fichajes.net reports that Liverpool have set their sights on Sesko, but neither the Reds nor Chelsea are willing to meet Leipzig's valuation of the striker. They have set an asking price of over £70m for the 41-cap Slovenia international, one of the Bundesliga's in-form forwards who sits on a purported £91,000 per week.

Sesko has four years left on his contract, and he's thought to be after £200,000 per week. Jurgen Klopp could play an important role in any move as he serves as the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, which includes working with sporting directors at clubs, including Leipzig.

Slot will want a reliable striker on the goalscoring front to take some of the burden off Ballon d'Or contender Mohamed Salah. The Slovenian fits the bill with his towering 6-foot-5-inch frame, "unbelievable" finishing abilities that are similar to Erling Haaland and his inevitability in the air.

The Dutch coach works well with potent number nines as seen with Santiago Gimenez during his time in charge of Feyenoord. His work in helping develop the 24-year-old may play a role in enticing Sesko on working under him at Anfield.
