Newcastle United look set to cross another name off their list of summer transfer targets.
The Magpies have missed out on Dean Huijsen already, with the 20-year-old centre-back set to leave Bournemouth and become a Real Madrid player.
At the other end of the pitch, another summer target looks set to pass Newcastle United by.
Newcastle have been linked with Matheus Cunha, as the Brazil international prepares to leave Molineux.
Premier League clubs have been queuing up to activate his £62.5million release clause, including Eddie Howe’s side.

Manchester United ‘closing in’ on Newcastle United target
However, Manchester United have been the favourites to sign Cunha.
They are now ‘closing in’ on finalising a deal, with Fabrizio Romano sharing an update on the 25-year-old’s future via his X account.
Romano wrote on X: “Manchester United are now closing in on Matheus Cunha deal! The Brazilian has accepted the project as agreement on personal terms is now being finalised, almost done. Final details to sort between all parties involved… and then, here we go.”

It was recently reported that Cunha’s future would be sorted before the end of the season, and that looks like it could be the case.
Ruben Amorim’s side are inching closer to finalising a deal for Cunha, who seemingly has his heart set on the Red Devils whether they are in the Champions League or not.
Newcastle United wait to discover Champions League fate
While some Premier League clubs are already lining up deals for the summer transfer window, Newcastle United are waiting to discover which European competition they will be involved in.
While Eddie Howe insists that Newcastle’s transfer targets will not change if they miss out on the Champions League, the amount of money they will have to spend will.
That will mean that the Magpies suddenly need to decide what their top priority is, be it a centre-back or a right winger.
In a perfect world, both will arrive. Newcastle want Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, although his availability is suddenly up in the air following the Eagles’ FA Cup win. In terms of wingers, Bryan Mbeumo is Newcastle’s top target.
He is available this summer, with Brentford willing to listen to offers for Mbeumo.
