The maverick Man United and Brentford swap transfer deal that could shake up the summer window

A player-swap deal with Manchester United that Brentford could roll the dice with this summer.

Manchester United are looking to bolster their options in attack this summer after struggling significantly in the Premier League. The Red Devils have one of the lowest goal returns in England’s top flight this season, with only the relegated trio and Everton finding the net fewer times.

With the future of multiple players hanging in the balance, United are headed for a major summer transformation. They are not short of options either, with several exciting targets on the radar already.

Mbeumo has contributed 19 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season, earning him the appreciation of plenty of clubs.

Manchester United eager to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo

According to Fichajes, United have tabled an offer close to €65 million (£55m) in attempt to sign Mbeumo from Brentford this summer. While that amount could be enough to secure a deal, the Red Devils could negotiate alternative terms.

Mbeumo’s contract is due to expire next year, meaning if the Bees don’t sell this summer, they run the risk of losing him for free in 2026. This could open the door for United to get creative with their offer, so we’ve decided to explore a potential, although potentially risky player-swap deal, from Brentford’s point of view, anyway.

United could be about to part ways with the majority of their forward options this summer. Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony are all expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, while the futures of the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho are also in doubt.

United are looking to bring in new creative options and figures who are clinical in front of goal, which is why the likes of Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are on the radar. With a significant overhaul on the cards, the Red Devils will not be short of players to offer up.

Man United could offer Luke Shaw in bold swap deal

Luke Shaw is another player who has been linked with an Old Trafford exit this summer. Due his ongoing injuries, United could opt to offload the left-back, especially with winter signing Patrick Dorgu becoming a more prominent figure.

Shaw has made just 11 appearances in all competitions this season as his fitness levels continue to set him back. As the 29-year-old looks increasingly likely to be moved on this summer, United could offer him as part of a deal to snag Mbeumo.

While this proposition certainly works for United, it’s more of a risk for Brentford, who would be gambling on an injury-prone player. However, if the club can get to the bottom of Shaw’s fitness struggles, they will have a superb player on their books. Shaw is a solid defender when fully fit and left-back is a position the Bees may look to bolster this summer.

With Rico Henry linked with an exit, Brentford will need another option at left-back. Signing a senior talent like Shaw could also allow Keane Lewis-Potter to return to his natural role further forward, having been asked by Thomas Frank to make the switch to the backline.

Due to Shaw’s ongoing absences, many have forgotten what he is capable of when at his best. Former United defender Alex Telles, who competed for the same position during his time at Old Trafford, was grateful he managed as many appearances as he did, lauding Shaw as the ‘best left-back in the Premier League’ as his competition.

Shaw has started United’s last four Premier League games, having returned from his latest injury setback. If he can stay fit, he would be a solid option at both left-back and centre-back for Brentford, but of course, it doesn’t come without its risk.

Signing Shaw would be a gamble but one that could pay off for the Bees. It won’t be enough just to offer an injury-prone defender in exchange for their top player, though. If United were to haggle a deal for Mbeumo, they would still need to put a significant amount of cash on the table, along with the idea of Shaw going in the opposite direction.
