Appointed in November as Erik ten Hag’s successor, the 40-year-old arrived with a big reputation after winning three Portuguese titles with Sporting CP.
However, he has so far struggled to arrest the club’s decline.
United are currently 16th in the Premier League with just one game left to play, but could still salvage their season by winning the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
A victory that would also secure Champions League qualification.
The Portuguese head coach has divided opinion with his commitment to his tactical system, despite signs that many players have struggled to adapt.
And while results have been underwhelming, Amorim continues to receive backing from fans and pundits.

Now, one of Manchester United’s most iconic figures has delivered his verdict – and sent a clear message to the club’s hierarchy.
Speaking to The Athletic, David Beckham urged United to support Amorim in the transfer market and build a structure around him that allows stability to thrive.
“It has not been a great season and I think that’s being kind,” Beckham said.
“When there hasn’t been stability at the club, it shows.”
Beckham, who was part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous ‘Class of 92’, stressed the importance of consistency off the pitch to produce results on it.
“We were lucky to be part of the most stable club with the same manager, owner, fans and players there for many years,” he added.
“We know when you have stability within the club, you have success. Simple as that.”

David Beckham says he’s a fan of Amorim and believes the club must now back him with the tools needed to succeed.
“He’s a young manager with success already under his belt and great experience for his age.
“So I think he will make the changes that he needs to make.”
Beckham also believes keeping key figures like captain Bruno Fernandes should be a non-negotiable.
The Portuguese was believed to be under the subject of a £125m bid from Saudi, earlier in May.
“I’d like to think you wouldn’t have to sell your captain.
“He (Bruno) has been exceptional,” Beckham said.
“We’ve all been critical at times – but when we needed someone to step up, he has done it.”
He also stressed the importance of protecting young talent such as Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

“I hate the idea of any young player who has grown up at United leaving the club,” he said as per The Athletic’s report.
“We shouldn’t be selling players purely for financial reasons.”
On Amorim’s stubbornness with his system, Beckham noted that while flexibility is vital, he admires the manager’s commitment.
Amorim has persisted with his use of the 3-4-3 system despite struggles in results and performances.
“Ferguson always knew when to change… if he can do it, maybe Ruben will too.
“But I like the fact he sticks with his system. That’s what I respect about him.”
The former England captain also commented on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s tenure so far, acknowledging the scale of the changes being made.
Ratcliffe has faced heavy criticism for his cost-cutting changes, having seen long serving staff members depart the club amid a reshuffle structurally.
“There are a lot of people I’ve known for a long time who are not at the club any more and that hurts.
“But it’s not a club I own – it’s a club I care about and I love.”
