What do Bruce Springsteen, Kylie Minogue and Kevin de Bryne all have in common? They are all due to appear in Manchester on Tuesday 20th May – with 100,000 people expected in the city centre to attend concerts at Coop Live and the AO Arena as well as Manchester City’s final home match of the season against Bournemouth (which will also be club legends Kevin de Bryne’s last home appearance). All in all it will combine to a very busy night for transport in the city, especially Metrolink.
For Metrolink s many double trams as possible will be out on the Ashton-under-Lyne line, including both the Eccles-Ashton service as well as the daytime MediaCItyUK-Etihad Campus and evening Altrincham-Etihad Campus servies. That will help all those going to the football and Bruce Springsteen and those attending are being advised to leave plenty of time to get there, be aware doors open at Coop Live for the concert from 1630. There are also walking routes from the city centre.
For an hour after the conclusion of the football the stops at Velopark, Calyton Hall and Holt Town will be closed as normal for safety reasons with passengers advised to use Ethihad Campus where crowd control measures will be in place. Its expected fans will start to leave Manchester City’s match later than usual because of events planned around Kevin de Bryne’s farewell.
For those heading to see Kylie at the AO Arena plenty of services will continue to run via Victoria as usual.
Steve Gilholme, Head of Events at TfGM, said: “It promises to be a spectacular night in Manchester – but also an incredibly busy one on our transport network, particularly the roads in and around the city centre.
“I would encourage anyone travelling into the city on Tuesday to plan ahead, travel by tram or bus and use the Bee Network app or website to keep yourself up to date with the latest travel information.
“City and Bruce Springsteen fans might also want to consider walking to their events from the city centre – making use of the well-lit, signposted and stewarded walking route which takes around 25 minutes from Piccadilly. For those who prefer to travel on two wheels, there are over 500 cycle parking spaces at the Etihad Campus and two bike hire points near the south-west corner of the Etihad stadium, on Ashton New Road.”
