Man Utd make big Ruben Amorim sack decision ahead of Europa League final - journalist

Manchester United are not planning to sack Ruben Amorim even if they lose the Europa League final, Mirror journalist Simon Mullock has revealed.

The Red Devils face Tottenham Hotspur in a season-defining game on Wednesday, where a victory would seal qualification for next season’s Champions League and potentially allow greater freedom in the upcoming transfer market.

However, even if they lose the final and miss out on European football for the first time in 10 seasons, United chiefs reportedly believe sacking Amorim would be ‘madness’ after just six months in charge.

They are ready to give the 40-year-old next season to further implement his methods, although there is disappointment inside the Old Trafford boardroom over how the domestic campaign unfolded.

According to Mullock, Man United’s recruitment team has drawn up two lists of summer transfer targets, including one that will be pursued if they win the Europa League and secure a £100million windfall by qualifying for the Champions League.

The Red Devils’ dismal domestic campaign means winning the continental competition is their only remaining route into European football, as they sit 16th in the league with one game remaining.

United are set to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table for the first time in their history, having suffered 14 defeats in 26 top-flight games since Amorim took charge in November.

Man United are anticipating a busy first summer under the Portuguese manager, with reinforcements up front currently topping their agenda.

The Red Devils are believed to be in advanced talks to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and are also likely to target a new striker, with Ipswich sensation Liam Delap among their options.
