Conspiracy theory around Anthony Gordon surfaces after another disappointing performance on…

· 19 May 2025, 20:30

**Last season, Anthony Gordon was absolutely outstanding week in and week out for Newcastle United, which resulted in pundits screaming for him to get an England call-up.**

Of course, eventually Gareth Southgate did give him his shot and even took him to the Euros, where he played just four minutes.

His lack of game time was said to be due to him being distracted by rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool as Newcastle tried to secure funds to comply with PSR.

Upon his return to Newcastle, Gordon assured fans that he was fully focused on the task at hand at Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon - Does he want to be at Newcastle?

Anthony Gordon has been a shadow of his former self this season

---------------------------------------------------------------

Gordon's first few performances of the season left a lot to be desired but we gave him the benefit of the doubt, it had been a rough summer and after competing in the U21s Euros, the gruelling Newcastle season and then going to the Euros with England again, he'd not really had much time to rest in two years.

The former Everton man managed a few decent performances that made us forget, he never really hit the heights of the previous season.

Gordon then got himself sent off in the FA Cup game against Brighton and subsequently received a suspension that saw him miss the Carabao Cup final. He also picked up a knock on international duty during that spell and struggled to get back in the Newcastle team due to Harvey Barnes' fine form.

Some fans are starting to believe that Gordon doesn't want to be at Newcastle

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

He's since managed to break his way into the side again, playing along with Harvey Barnes, but fans aren't convinced he's giving his all.

One thing Gordon has been criticised for a lot this season is poor body language, looking as if he just doesn't care, or he's simply not trying.

While we can't deny that his body language has been shocking, there's an idea going around that he's trying to force a move away from Newcastle by playing poorly.

If Gordon is trying to force a move, he's going about it the wrong way

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This doesn't make sense to us. Surely, if he wants to force a move, he has to make himself appealing to other clubs. Hanging your head and not putting in the effort isn't going to get him that big move he craves.

We don't know what's going on inside a player's head and it could be one of a million things that has him distracted, but we do not buy into this idea that he doesn't want to be here any more, and if that actually is the case, then he's going about it all the wrong way.

There are plenty of fans still defending him, and it does seem to be the minority who think his head has been turned, but it was interesting to see, and we wanted to get our readers' opinions.
