West Ham must look to secure Gomes’ services this summer

Gomes has evolved significantly since leaving Manchester United in 2020.

At Old Trafford, he was a promising but raw talent, limited to five Premier League appearances, often deployed as an attacking midfielder with flair but lacking physicality and consistency.

At Lille, Gomes has matured into a versatile, dynamic midfielder, capable of playing as a No. 6 or No. 8.

His technical ability, vision, and stamina have earned him four England caps, showcasing his growth into a complete midfielder.

For West Ham, signing Gomes would bolster their midfield, offering creativity and control, potentially replacing the inconsistent Edson Alvarez.

His progressive passing and ability to dictate tempo would enhance West Ham’s possession play, addressing their lack of dynamism.

Graham Potter, known for progressive coaching, can elevate Gomes by refining his positional discipline in a possession-based system, encouraging bolder forward runs, and leveraging his off-ball work rate to press higher.

By integrating Gomes into a fluid 4-2-3-1, Potter can unlock his potential, making him a cornerstone of West Ham’s midfield revival.
