Man United look set to replace goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer amid a string of poor performances.

Andre Onana’s future at Manchester United looks very uncertain after what has been a poor season by the goalkeeper. He has made mistakes at crucial times, including in the Europa League, which forced Ruben Amorim to briefly drop him.

If City manage to land Costa, United will need to look elsewhere, and they have now been linked with a Premier League keeper who could be set for a shock move this summer.

Man United ‘make offer’ for Emi Martinez

Aston Villa stopper Emiliano Martinez has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League during his time with Unai Emery’s side, but he could be set to leave this summer.

Reports have emerged recently suggesting that United are interested in signing Martinez after claims that United could be forced to sell the 32-year-old this summer due to PSR concerns.

According to Argentinian journalist Fernando Cuyz both Man United and Barcelona have made offers to sign Martinez, who was seen to be in tears after Aston Villa’s 2-0 win against Spurs, their last game of the season at Villa Park.

With that in mind, Martinez looked like a player who knows that he is to leave Villa this summer, and so Old Trafford could be the next destination for the Argentina international.

He is expected to be worth around £20m, which would be a bargain for United as they would get a proven Premier League keeper, who at times has been superb for Villa and for the Argentina national team.

This season, Martinez has made 52 appearances for Unai Emery’s side this season, conceding 61 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets. He helped Villa reach the Champions League quarter-final.

Which other keepers could United sign?

The benefit of signing Chevalier is that he’s just 23 years old, meaning that United could get themselves a long-term solution at the goalkeeper position. The Frenchman has made 48 appearances for Lille this season, conceding 53 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.

United and PSG are both reportedly keen on Chevalier, who would cost around £34m according to the reports. He said in a recent interview that he would love to play in the Premier League amid the recent speculation.

“The Premier League? It’s a championship that makes you dream, the most attractive,” Chevalier told the French football awards after being named Ligue 1 goalkeeper of the season.

“When you see Tottenham, Manchester United struggling with crazy [good] players, you see the level. I have a two-year contract, and you know the president… I haven’t had any specific proposals from this country, but it makes you think.”
