Manchester United are preparing themselves for a difficult transfer window as the club’s financial pressures are mounting up, however look set to be helped by Real Madrid.
The Red Devils are closing in on a move for Matheus Cunha, and continue to pursue Liam Delap to remodel their attack.
Whilst their combined release clauses come to a massive £92.5 million, it’s understood that United could just about cover this fee without making sales or relying on the extra £100 million that would come from Champions League qualification.
However, any other signings would require a new cash injection to the club, coming from sales.
That said, United look set to get a considerable boost from Real Madrid’s pursuit of former defender Alvaro Carreras who’s been lighting up Liga Portugal with Benfica.

Real Madrid have highlighted Carreras as their priority summer signing to the left-back role, with new manager Xabi Alonso being a huge fan of the 22-year-old.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Madrid are finalising personal terms with the defender, with a transfer fee yet to be agreed between the clubs.
Patrick Berger has reported that Carreras’ release clause stands at £42 million (€50 million) with Madrid hoping to negotiate this down.
It was reported that Los Blancos were looking to United to exercise their £15 million buy-back clause for Carreras and then sell him on for £30 million, giving United £15 million profit on the star whilst buying him for cheaper.
However this move doesn’t appear to be going ahead, although United are still set to profit.
Under the INEOS leadership, United have been negotiating high sell-on clauses for the promising players they’ve recently sold.
Maxi Oyedele had a 40% sell-on clause built into his move to Legia Warszawa, whilst Mason Greenwood had a 50% sell-on cause built into his move to Marseille.
Whilst it’s not known how high Carreras’ sell-on rate is, it’s been previously reported as considerable.
If it falls within a similar region as Oyedele and Greenwood, United could see a windfall payment of up to £21 million for Carreras’ move to the Spanish capital.
Even looking at a 40% sell-on for his release clause would till see a payment of nearly £17 million heading to Old Trafford.
As such the move could be set to be highly lucrative for United, coming at a time when it’s needed most.
