Man United Want To Sell This First-Team Flop Because Amorim Thinks He’s Already Got A Replacement: Finally A Good Decision?

Back in January, Ruben Amorim was very particular about signing Patrick Dorgu and now that the wing-back has properly settled in, Manchester United are planning to get rid of Luke Shaw, claims GMS.

Luke Shaw has been with Manchester United since 2014 but the England international has spent more time inside the treatment room than on the pitch. His career has been riddled with injuries and in the previous two seasons, he’s played in just 26 games across all competitions.

The left-back currently takes home £150,000 per week but now with an adequate backup in place, Manchester United are finally ready to cut their losses. His contract with the club runs until 2027 and United are confident of finding a buyer for him in the summer.

Can Patrick Dorgu successfully replace Luke Shaw?

Patrick Dorgu is still an unfinished project and he has lots of room to improve. However, he’s put in more good performances since January than Luke Shaw has given in the past two years.

He is yet to make a goal contribution but in the 18 matches he’s played, the 20-year-old is en route to becoming a top player. Also, unlike Luke Shaw who is a left-back, Patrick Dorgu is a proper left wing-back and that’s exactly what Ruben Amorim wants in his system.

Dorgu is an ever-willing runner who is blessed with great pace and unlike all the other wide players, he is one of the few who is consistently willing to put the ball into the box.

He is yet to get off the mark at Old Trafford but during the first half of the season, the 20-year-old had 4 goal involvements in 21 Serie A appearances for Lecce. He had an xG of 3.25 in these 21 games plus he won 60% of tackles and was dispossessed only 37 times.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Patrick Dorgu can replace Luke Shaw without any issues and because Amorim has Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro, the manager does not need a left-sided centre-back either.

Luke Shaw has played a few games on the trot since returning from his long injury lay-off but the England international fully understands that he will not be at the club beyond the summer.
