Warriors, Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors Heat Up After Recent Report

It could be a busy summer for the Golden State Warriors, as could be the case for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Warriors had an impressive campaign, making the second round of the NBA Playoffs after acquiring Jimmy Butler -- pairing him with Stephen Curry -- at the trade deadline.

The squad looked renewed once Butler arrived. There was a different buzz in the air.

Golden State, with proper offseason moves by general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., could be a contending team next season.

The Warriors will need to capitalize on the championship window provided by Curry, Butler and Draymond Green.

On the other hand, the window seems to have closed for the Antetokounmpo-led Milwaukee Bucks. Their roster construction and leadership seem to have run it's course, and title contention seems out of their cards for the time being.

There has been some early buzz about the potential of Antetokounmpo landing in the Bay Area alongside Curry, though is it a reality?

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Warriors have the trade package needed if the Greek superstar asks for a trade during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show.

"The Lakers or the Warriors couldn’t win a bidding war if the market’s open — no way they could win a bidding war," Windhorst explained. "If Giannis went in and said, ‘I want to be with Steph Curry. That’s who I want to play with.’ Is there a deal that could happen between those two teams? Yes. I would be lying to you if I told you the Warriors couldn’t trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo."

Recently, reports have surfaced that have sparked even more fuel for the trade rumor. Antetokounmpo was among the few non-Warriors at Curry's party over the course of All-Star Weekend this past February.

The idea that Antetokounmpo could choose to ask to play alongside Curry has been floating around, and Windhorst's report that the Warriors could hypothetically throw out an acceptable trade package only adds to the rumors.

Again, Golden State won't win a bidding war for Antetokounmpo. If the former NBA champion and MVP wants to end up in the Bay Area, though, it's a possibility that such can happen.
