Anthony Edwards Could Make Timberwolves Playoff History in WCF

The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to play the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference final. Game 1 of the series takes place on May 20.

The Timberwolves sent the Golden State Warriors packing in the previous playoff round. The OKC Thunder, meanwhile, got past the Denver Nuggets.

The Timberwolves-Thunder showdown is also a clash between two of the most in-form players. Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have been among the outstanding performers this term.

Gilgeous-Alexander is the frontrunner to win the MVP. Edwards, meanwhile, has performed consistently well.

In the regular season, he averaged 27.6 points, 1.2 steals, 4.5 assists, and 5.7 rebounds in 79 appearances. In the postseason, his average is 26.5 points, 1.5 steals, 5.9 assists, and 8 rebounds in 10 appearances.

Overall, his playoff steal tally for the Timberwolves is 54. With nine more, he can surpass Kevin Garnett (63) as the player with the most steals in the Timberwolves' playoff history.

That is not the only piece of history Edwards is staring at. With 35 points in the upcoming series, he can surpass Garnett as the player with the most points in the Timberwolves' playoff history.

The Timberwolves have defeated the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors in back-to-back series. Two of the biggest superstars in the NBA, LeBron James and Steph Curry, turned out to be no match for Edwards.

The 23-year-old, though, isn't getting ahead of himself. Despite his young age, Edwards is staying grounded. Speaking after eliminating the Warriors, Edwards said, "There is no satisfaction. We just got here. We haven't [done] anything yet."

The duo against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, meanwhile, could also be a decider in the NBA's face. This is the first time in history the Timberwolves have made back-to-back conference finals.

It's worth keeping an eye on whether Edwards and the Timberwolves can take the next step.
