Man Utd are working on a deal to bring Matheus Cunha to the club in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are hopeful they will complete a deal to sign Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window, regardless of whether or not they qualify for the Champions League. United remain in talks with the 25-year-old over a possible move to Old Trafford after they identified Cunha as the preferred target for an attacking midfield position.

Ruben Amorim wants to add at least a striker and an attacking midfielder to his squad this summer in the next stage of their squad rebuild. Cunha insisted on a £62.5 million release clause when he signed a new Wolves contract earlier in the year and United believe it is a fair valuation for a player with world-class potential.

The Brazilian is eager to join United even if they can't offer Champions League football, though contract talks could be influenced by whether or not they manage to win the Europa League on Wednesday night. It is estimated United could earn £100 million from Champions League qualification and it could impact what they are prepared to offer Cunha.

United could sign another playmaker

It has previously been revealed Manchester United could sign two attacking midfielders this summer, though that will depend on player sales. Ruben Amorim is open to adding two playmakers to his first-team squad, with interest held in Brentford ace Bryan Mbuemo, Crystal Palace hero Eberechi Eze and RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.

A deal for Cunha is the immediate focus, though transfer guru Fabrizio Romano does not rule out the possibility of another midfielder joining him at Old Trafford this summer.

"Some sources are also keeping the doors open to one more addition for the number 10 position, to have one more player able to play behind the striker based on what happens also with the outgoings," he told GIVEMESPORT. "That is going to be crucial for Financial Fair Play. But the priority is Matheus Cunha. Negotiations are underway and now advancing after fresh contact in the last 48 hours."

It is hoped a deal for Cunha will be quick to complete, though there could be some negotiations over paying his release clause in instalments. United would prefer to stagger the payment over several windows, while Wolves would like the bulk of the fee to be paid upfront.
