Chelsea will have a golden opportunity to get revenge over Nottingham Forest after having a bid rejected for one of their best players. The two clubs will do battle on the final day of the Premier League campaign in a game that will determine whether they qualify for next season's Champions League. Chelsea will grace Europe's biggest stage with victory over Forest, while a draw may be enough if other results go their way.
Forest, meanwhile, will need to beat Chelsea and hope that one of Newcastle, Aston Villa or Manchester City fail to win. They have stayed in the hunt for the vast majority of the campaign but a dip in form has seen them fall out of the Premier League's top five. Missing out on Champions League football would be a crushing blow, given just how impressive they have been this season.
If they are beaten by Chelsea this weekend, the Blues will have the chance to twist the knife in further by poaching one of Forest's biggest stars. Earlier this season, they were interested in a move for Murillo but failed to push a January deal over the line.
Chelsea tabled a formal bid which would have been a record sale for Forest, according to The Telegraph. However, the Reds turned it down and Murillo stayed at the City Ground, where he has continued to impress in the middle of defence.
Fast forward six months and Chelsea might be tempted to go again, especially if they can offer Champions League football to sweeten the deal. This would, of course, rely on the Blues claiming victory over Forest this Sunday.
Even if the Blues fail to get into the Premier League's top five, there is still a chance that another club will swoop for Murillo in advance of next season.
He was also linked with a handful of other clubs in January, including the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. Real Madrid even weighed up a surprise move for Murillo to replace the injured Eder Militao, according to the Daily Mail.
Nothing materialised at the time, but a renewed wave of interest could arrive at the end of the season. Chelsea might be among the prime contenders if they can secure Champions League qualification at the expense of Forest this weekend.
Such a move would be a double whammy for the Reds, who would be forced into the market to replace their star defender before next season gets underway.
