Liverpool were once again on the losing side in a post-Premier League title win fixture, with Brighton & Hove Albion beating the Reds 3-2.
Despite going into the break 2-1 up, the Seagulls showed their quality and their drive to finish in a top-eight spot by mounting an impressive comeback against Liverpool, with Arne Slot’s side not taking their chances right to seal the game.
One shining light from the result, though, was Liverpool setting a club record for scoring in every league away game for the first time in their history, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring one of the two goals on the night for the Reds.
And Szoboszlai has now cleared up if his strike was deliberate or not, given the surprising nature of the goal against Brighton.

Dominik Szoboszlai admits his goal was meant to be a cross
Speaking to Premier League Productions, the Hungarian international admitted that his goal was intended to be a cross, with Szoboszlai saying: “It was a cross, to be honest. I’m not going to lie. I’m happy to score, and happy to help the team.”
With Robbie Keane recently demanding that Szoboszlai do more for Liverpool, the former RB Leipzig star provided just that last night against Brighton, even if the midfielder admitted that his goal was a total fluke.

Indeed, Szoboszlai’s underlying numbers for a midfielder of his skillset have again been disappointing for Liverpool fans, even if the no. 8 has proven himself to be a key player for Slot in a system that has won the Reds the Premier League title.

And going into next season, Szoboszlai knows that he has to do more with goals and assists if he’s to take his game to the next level and to keep his spot in the starting XI, with the former Bundesliga star the most replaceable of the midfield three.

With one game left to go, there’s a real chance that Szoboszlai could still hit double digits in both goals and assists for the season, especially if Crystal Palace turn up at Anfield on Sunday still in a party mood from their FA Cup win.
Yet for a player of Szoboszlai’s qualities, it should not take until the last game of the season for the attacking midfielder to have a shot at reaching 10+ goals or assists in all competitions for a club like Liverpool.
Heading into the new season, Szoboszlai will want to up his goal productivity, and doing so could finally take the 24-year-old to the level many Liverpool fans believe the Hungarian international can hit under Slot.
