Liverpool attacker could stay put despite lack off playing time

Liverpool’s poor run of form continued on Monday night as they were beaten 3-2 by Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Reds were crowned Premier League champions in April but have since failed to win any of their three matches in the competition.

Harvey Elliott had given Arne Slot’s side an early lead at The Amex, before Yasin Ayari drew the hosts level.

Dominik Szoboszlai then put the visitors back in front on the stroke of half-time from an unlikely angle, but second half goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood earned Brighton a memorable victory and inflicted a fourth Premier League defeat of the season on the champions.

Liverpool are set to leave Trent Alexander-Arnold when his contract expires this summer, but it remains to be seen what other incomings and outgoings will occur at Anfield ahead of next season.

It appears, however, that one of Slot’s fringe players could stay put on Merseyside.

According to TBR Football, forward Federico Chiesa could remain at Liverpool beyond this summer despite struggling to force his way into Slot’s side.

The Italy international joined Liverpool from Juventus last summer but has since struggled to establish himself as a regular for the Reds.

The 27-year-old has featured 14 times for Liverpool across all competitions so far this term and started his first Premier League game against Brighton on Monday.

Cheese’s lack of action has seen him linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, however the report suggests that he could in fact stay put.

It is claimed that those in charge of Liverpool have been impressed by the Italian’s behaviour behind the scenes, and he could therefore remain part of Slot’s squad for next season.

The Dutchman is said to have been impressed by the player and believes that he can play a part for his side next season.

Chiesa is under contract with Liverpool until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
