Manchester United executives have held face-to-face talks with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap over a potential summer move, The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell has revealed.
The Red Devils are aiming to move ahead of Premier League competition in the race to sign the 22-year-old striker for Ruben Amorim and may soon have a chance to take another step forward in their pursuit of Delap.
The 'exceptional' England U21 international was reportedly given permission by Ipswich to travel to Manchester to better understand what a move to Old Trafford would involve.
Delap has yet to decide on his next career move and is expected to enter ‘meaningful’ discussions with all suitors, including Chelsea.

According to Whitwell, Delap’s £30m release clause makes him an appealing target for a number of Premier League clubs, including Man United, who are also advancing on a deal to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
It is believed the Red Devils have the finances to complete both deals, regardless of how Wednesday’s Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur plays out, with next season’s Champions League qualification on the line.
United are expected to pay Cunha’s £62.5m release clause in instalments and are now in talks over his personal terms, with both sides working towards an agreement.
Man United are believed to be exploring other forward options as well, including Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
However, both Cunha and Delap appear to be the current priorities, though the club may also look to add a right-sided winger, with Bournemouth sensation Antoine Semenyo also mooted.
