Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool hold transfer meeting with family of ‘world-class talent’ to join…

Liverpool are continuing to push for a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, having met with the German international’s family and presented their project, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Reds remain firmly in the race to land Wirtz after the season and face competition from Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich, who remain optimistic about signing the 22-year-old.

However, even if Wirtz opts for Bayern, Romano claims Liverpool 'will have no regrets' if they miss out on the midfielder, since they are doing their 'very best' to try and sign him.

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to pay an 'important' fee for Wirtz, which could surpass the club-record £85m paid for Darwin Nunez in 2022.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Liverpool would be ready to sign Wirtz if he chooses England as his next destination:

“Bayern, internally, maintain their feeling that, in the end, the player will join them. So Bayern management remain very optimistic about this transfer, but Liverpool are doing their job.

“What are Liverpool doing? They met with the parents of the player. They presented the project. They would be prepared to pay an important transfer fee. They presented a very ambitious plan for the future.

“So Liverpool wanted to position themselves on this one, like, trying, doing their very best. Then, if the player decides to go to England, Liverpool are ready.

“Otherwise, if he goes to Bayern, Liverpool will have no regrets, because they did their very best.”

Wirtz, praised as a 'world-class talent', has developed into one of the best attacking midfielders in the world during his five seasons with Leverkusen’s first team.

The £126m-rated Germany international led Bayer to their first-ever Bundesliga title last season and has been just as productive this term, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool are also believed to be in advanced talks to sign Wirtz’s teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who could soon become their first summer signing.

The Reds are expected to activate Frimpong’s £30m release clause, having identified him as their top choice to replace Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold.
