Newcastle United have been informed that a quality midfielder who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur has made a decision on his future.
The Magpies are eager to add more bodies to the squad after three transfer windows without adding to their starting XI. Sporting director Paul Mitchell joined the club last summer, but he has yet to show what he is capable of in the transfer market.
With European nights returning to Newcastle United next season, the need to sign players is much greater than it was in previous transfer windows, but the type of player they sign depends on what competition they play in.
Newcastle are likely to finish in the Champions League spots in the Premier League, but there is still a chance they slip out of the top five and end up in the Europa League or even the Conference League.
If they do fail to qualify for the Champions League, Newcastle will sign younger players who will help them in the second or third-string competition.
However, Champions League qualification will see Newcastle sign bigger names this summer. With Newcastle fans eager to see some signings, one player who has been linked with a move to Tyneside has finally decided on his future.

Newcastle United target Angel Gomes confirms Lille exit
Lille midfielder Angel Gomes has already experienced life in the Premier League with Manchester United, and now it looks like a return to England could be on the cards after making a huge decision on his future.
Gomes has been linked with a move to Newcastle on a free transfer this summer, but has demanded more than £100,000-a-week in wages from the Magpies. The 24-year-old has already rejected a move to West Ham this summer, but it has since been confirmed that he will be leaving Lille this summer to continue his career elsewhere.

In a post on his Instagram account, Gomes said: “After four unforgettable years at LOSC Lille, it’s time for me to say goodbye. This club has been more than just a team — it’s been a family, a home, and a place that has shaped me both on and off the pitch. Like any journey, there were ups and downs, highs and lows, but I’m truly grateful to my teammates and the fans for sticking with me throughout.
I’m proud of what we achieved together and thankful for every moment. To the fans, thank you for your amazing support and for believing in me. I will forever be grateful. I always gave everything I had for the badge and for all of you.”
The post was seen by Newcastle defender and former teammate Sven Botman, who said: “Myy broskii.”
Angel Gomes has already played with several Newcastle United stars
Earlier in 2025, reports suggested Gomes had rejected Newcastle for Tottenham, but the midfielder has yet to decide on his future club.
A positive for Newcastle is that Gomes has already played alongside several Toon stars on the international stage.
Gomes was handed his first England call-up by Lee Carsley in 2024, and played alongside three Newcastle players: Anthony Gordon, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.
Despite being snubbed by Thomas Tuchel in March, Gomes will be in line for more England caps when the German picks his squad for the upcoming internationals against Andorra and Senegal.
Joining Gomes in England’s squad could be Jacob Murphy, who has had a brilliant season and is believed to be in Tuchel’s thinking for the next pair of international games.
