'Watch this space': David Ornstein shares encouraging Liam Delap claim after Everton development

Everton are on the lookout for a new striker this summer with big improvements being eyed by the Blues.

David Moyes is looking to end the season on a high following the 2-0 victory in the final game at Goodison Park over the weekend.

But Everton are fully aware of the work which is going to be needed in the summer when the transfer window opens.

Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia will leave Everton at the end of their current contracts.

They are just three of the players who are set to depart the club over the coming weeks, with more contract announcements set to follow.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is keen to sign a new contract with the striker seemingly having a change of heart.

However, this will not stop Everton from pursuing their interest in signing a new striker this season.

The youngster is set to be available for just £30m and this has most of the league on red alert.

According to David Ornstein, Delap has been speaking to all of the interested clubs as he looks to make his decision on his next club.

Speaking to NBC Sports about Manchester United’s interest in Delap, Ornstein said: “Liam Delap is their main target.”

“He’s wanted by a lot of clubs, he’s speaking to all of them now to make his decision – including Manchester United.

“A release clause of just £30m after Ipswich’s relegation, but United will have to see what happens with their European status for next season. Watch this space.”

It is believed Delap could make his decision this week as he is looking to go into the summer knowing where he stands.

Everton would be able to offer the striker regular minutes in the starting XI, but Delap does have some big clubs interested in his signature.

Jamie Carragher urges Liam Delap to join Everton

Annoyingly for Everton, it is believed Delap wants to play European football next season, which would be an obvious blow for the Toffees.

However, Everton could potentially persuade the youngster with their exciting new project under the Friedkins.

Everton’s finances are going to transform following their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer and that will provide a lot more hope for the future.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher urged Delap to move to the Toffees.

“I just think the next step should be something like Everton,” he said.

“You know you’re going to play every week, you’re going to be the main man, you’re going to be one of the best players in the team.”
