Exclusive: Liverpool CEO of football Michael Edwards approached by Al-Hilal over move

FSG and Liverpool CEO of football Michael Edwards has been approached by Al-Hilal to discuss a senior role at club.

Edwards is happy in his new role with FSG, but has shown a desire to engage and discuss with president Fahad bin Nafel a potential role for the future.

GMS understands that Edwards is not actively looking to leave FSG this summer, nor does he want to go elsewhere as a sporting director. However, he does see appeal in speaking to clubs wishing to overhaul their sporting department, or where he is given freedom to build an executive team.

Al-Hilal's approach to Edwards is down to their own desire to put a best-in-class sporting structure in place. He has managed Liverpool's current transition to a sporting-led structure under Richard Hughes, and is also tasked with adding a new club to Liverpool's multi-club model, having looked at Bordeaux previously and now Malaga.

Al-Hilal want Edwards to come in as their most senior sporting figure, and work closely with Nafel and CEO Esteve Calzada. Edwards has not given any indication yet he is looking for a new challenge, but there as been notable contact between the parties, which points to the fact Al-Hilal, like many other clubs, view FSG and Liverpool's success as a strong blueprint to follow. Edwards has become the architect of the successful transitions and foundations.
