Man United will play their biggest game of the season when the Red Devils take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. They must win on Wednesday night because that’s their only route left for Champions League qualification.

The Red Devils are currently 16th on the Premier League table and if they lose their final match of the season, Manchester United could very well finish the domestic campaign as the 17th side in the top division. In such a scenario, Ruben Amorim and his boys have to win the Europa League at any cost and salvage a degree of pride.

Unlike their domestic campaign, Man United are unbeaten in Europe this season and they will want that run to continue. They have played some outstanding matches in the previous rounds, beating Lyon and then Athletic Bilbao but United do not have a great record against Spurs in recent years. The last time Man United beat Tottenham was in October 2022 and since then the Lilywhites have been unbeaten in their last six matches.

Manchester United’s injuries and team news:

DEFENCE:

In defence, Luke Shaw has returned to full fitness which is a plus for Man United but Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt remain doubts for the final. Yoro has been training in the past one week so the youngster should be fit and available for selection but De Ligt is facing a race against time.

The backroom staff claims that the centre-back has a 50-50 chance of being fully fit but they are not yet ready to commit. If the Dutch international is not available then Victor Lindelof might get a start. Leny Yoro has played as the right-sided centre-back but we think Ruben Amorim will prefer him on the left-hand side.

MIDFIELD AND WING-BACKS:

Casemiro has turned things around in recent months and the Brazilian international is now a mainstay in the Man United team. He is keeping Kobbie Mainoo on the bench and Amorim will hope that ex-Real Madrid man can use his European experience to guide them to victory.

Patrick Dorgu has been a mainstay as the left wing-back and since Diogo Dalot is out injured, Mazraoui will play on the right-hand side. Like Casemiro, Mazraoui’s experience will also come in handy on Wednesday night.

FORWARDS:

Bruno Fernandes will be the first name on the Man United team sheet and the captain needs to guide his team to yet another victory. Fernandes has been sensational this season, scoring 23 goals and providing 16 assists for club and country and the playmaker is the reason why United have been able to reach the final in the first place.

Amad is back to full fitness and Ruben Amorim will prefer him over Garnacho. Garnacho has not played badly in recent weeks but Amad gives more pace on counter attacks and is a nuisances to opposition defenders when Manchester United are pressing high.

Joshua Zirkzee is doing all he can to be fit to play a part in midweek but for the time being, it looks like Amorim will have to rely on Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international has been shockingly poor this season and if he wants to save his career at Old Trafford, the 22-year-old needs to drop a world-class performance in the final.
