Defender scoops top prize at awards event

Dara O’Shea won the Ipswich Town Player of the Year prize at last night’s end-of-season dinner at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall.

The award capped a positive season for the Republic of Ireland international, who joined the Tractor Boys last summer from Burnley in a deal thought to be worth £7m.

O’Shea has made 34 appearances in the Premier League this term – more than any of his team-mates.

Meanwhile, Liam Delap, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in the past 24 hours, won both the Players’ Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

He also walked away with the Goal of the Season gong for his effort in last month’s 2-1 victory at Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Sophia Peskett won the Women’s Player of the Year award following an impressive campaign in front of goal.

Peskett clinched the Golden Boot after finding the back of the net on 23 occasions during the Tractor Girls’ historic promotion from the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

Leah Mitchell took home the Women’s Players’ Player of the Year prize, while the Women’s Young Player of the Year accolade went the way of Lucy O’Brien.

The Women’s Goal of the Season was won by Kaci-Jai Bonwick for her memorable debut strike as Ipswich sealed the title on the final day of the campaign with an 8-0 hammering of Cheltenham Town.

Striker Tommy Taylor, who has appeared on the first-team bench twice, was named the Academy Player of the Year.
