Callum Wilson will leave Newcastle United at the end of next month - as it stands.
Wilson is out of contract this summer having failed to meet a certain number of appearances this campaign that would have triggered an automatic one-year extension. It’s understood Newcastle still have the option of another year but as it stands, the striker will be leaving St James’ Park after five years.
The 33-year-old has scored 49 goals in 129 appearances since joining from AFC Bournemouth for £20million in 2020 but has often had to deal with his fair share of injury problems.
Wilson himself has described this season as his trickiest to date having been restricted to just three starts and one goal. Wilson’s start at Arsenal on Sunday was only his second in the Premier League and failing to find the net means it is now over a year since his last goal in the league.
The Coventry-born striker missed five of the opening seven months of the 2024-25 season and while he has managed to remain fit and available since February, Alexander Isak’s form has kept him out of the starting XI.
Callum Wilson breaks silence on his Newcastle United contract situation
Sunday’s final Premier League game against Everton could prove to be Wilson’s last in a Newcastle shirt, but the player seems fairly relaxed about the situation.
Asked about his contract expiring, Wilson told the High Performance Podcast: “I’m comfortable now. Financially, thankfully, I’m stable so that’s not an issue. I know I’m still able to provide for my family and put food on the table for them.
“I know my worth and I know my value and I’m still so hungry inside that even though I know Alex is scoring goals, I’m still frustrated when the team sheet comes out and I’m not starting so I know I’m not ready to leave football yet.
“I’d love to leave football before football leaves me, I’d never let an injury stop me from playing - I think I’ve been fit now four-and-a-half months but I’ve probably only played 250 or 300 minutes and that side of things are frustrating because you don’t want to last few years on your career to fizzle away from you, especially when you’re worked so hard to get to that point.

What Newcastle United have said about Callum Wilson’s future
“What’s meant to be will be” said Wilson, which is similar to the response Newcastle boss Eddie Howe gave earlier this month.
“He's very much in my plans going forward,” Howe said. “We have four games to go and he's a huge part of that. I think he's looked better and better in recent weeks.
“You have to understand Callum probably has been going through a pre-season sort of in the short window, as in on the pitch, which is very difficult to do. But he needed the training and the game exposure to get back to his very best form. I think he's getting there now.
“I think physically I see the Callum Wilson of old, so a good sign for him. And he has stayed fit for a long period of time, which has been brilliant to see. And I think on his long-term future, let's wait and see.”
