"My information..." - Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd want to sign 'best striker in world' after…

Manchester United are still interested in a summer move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres, who is ‘for sure’ going to switch clubs after the season, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Red Devils are expected to bolster Ruben Amorim’s forward options with a new number nine this summer and maintain admiration for Gyokeres as a potential transfer target.

While Ipswich Town sensation Liam Delap remains a cheaper option, with his release clause standing at £30m, United are also alerted to Gyokeres’ upcoming availability on the market.

According to Romano, the Sweden international is likely to depart Sporting for a package worth around €65m (£55m) this summer, which is considerably less than his €100m (£85m) release clause.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has revealed that Man United and Arsenal are two clubs maintaining strong interest in Gyokeres ahead of the summer transfer window:

“Gyokeres is going for sure. Gyokeres will leave for way less than €100m release clause.

“My information is something around €65m package. It can be €60m plus add-ons, can be €65m with add-ons included, but the package will be around €65m with add-ons to be part of this deal structure.

“So let's wait for this point, because it's going to be a really important one. But for sure, Viktor Gyokeres will leave for this transfer fee.

“Man United are still there, according to my information from Viktor Gyokeres.

“We know there is also interest from Arsenal. There are several clubs interested in the player, but for sure, these two clubs maintain a strong interest in Viktor Gyokeres.”

Gyokeres, who joined Sporting from Coventry in 2023, has blossomed into arguably ‘the best striker in the world’ during his two seasons in Portugal.

The 26-year-old has demonstrated exceptional goalscoring prowess across the past 24 months, scoring 96 times in 101 appearances and adding 28 assists.

Man United are anticipating several changes to their frontline this summer and are in advanced talks to make Wolves star Matheus Cunha their first offseason arrival.

The Red Devils are expected to pay the Brazilian’s £62.5m release clause in installments and could complete the deal in the coming days.
