Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have agreed that Manchester United shouldn't sign Liam Delap. The 22-year-old striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer following his impressive performances for Ipswich Town.
Delap, who sees his contract at Portman Road expire in June 2029, has featured 36 times in the Premier League this season, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists. Despite the England Under-21 international's best efforts, he couldn't steer Kieran McKenna's side to safety.
Due to a relegation release clause in his deal, Delap will be available for just £30m. Had the Tractor Boys not been relegated from the English top-flight, he would've been valued at £40m, with Manchester City reserving a 'buy-back' fee at that price.
While Delap has been widely regarded as a bargain, Neville and Carragher don't believe United should sign him. Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show, the former Liverpool defender noted how Rasmus Hojlund has struggled live up to expectations.

"I don’t think he should go to Man United," said Carragher. "I just think what happened to [Rasmus] Hojlund. You’re going from a team who were relegated to – and I know Man United are 16th – but it’s Man United, one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"The eyes and ears of the world are on you. I just think that is such a big step. You might say it’s from there to there in terms of league position, but Man United is a monster."
On if Delap would be an upgrade on Hojlund, Carragher said: "I do. I just think that the next step of… [At] Everton, you're going to play every week, feel like the main man, one of the best players in the team.

"He's one of the best players in the team at Ipswich and everything goes through him. Go to another club where you are that for two years, then go to that Man United sort of team, sort of Champions League or competing for that sort of level."
When quizzed on United's search for a new forward, Neville explained why he'd rather see Matheus Cunha at Old Trafford. The former Reds defender said: "I think he’s a good player. Cunha yes. To see someone with that sort of running ability, legs, suits Old Trafford.
"Delap has got a level of potential and ability. My fear is the expectation on him coming, on another young player, to lead that line for Manchester United, we’ve already seen Zirkzee and Hojlund this season struggle. That one needs to be with a little bit of…"

The Manchester Evening News understands that United are keen to bring Cunha to Old Trafford. Meanwhile, The Times have reported that the Reds are willing to trigger the £64.5m release clause in his Wolves contract later this month.
On Sunday afternoon, marking the end of the season, United will lock horns with Aston Villa at Old Trafford while Wolves face Brentford at Molineux. The club will then reportedly look to agree on personal terms with the Brazil international.
Cunha, who sees his contract at Molineux expire in June 2029, has featured 31 times in the Premier League this season, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists. Playing a key role in Vitor Pereira's side, he helped Wolves avoid relegation from the top-flight.
