Man United to receive unexpected fortune as ex-player agrees big-money move to Real Madrid

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS-led team, are planning a busy summer transfer window – one that will hopefully see plenty of arrivals and departures – and their transfer kitty could get a boost all thanks to Real Madrid’s activity in the summer.

First, the Red Devils travel to Bilbao to lock horns with fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, but with their domestic season all-but done and dusted, the attention has now turned to bolstering Amorim’s squad.

Winning the showpiece in the Basque Country and, thus, securing Champions League football for the 2025/26 campaign would provide the Old Trafford outfit with a healthy financial boost, but so could Alvaro Fernandez’s potential move to his homeland.

Fernandez’s Real Madrid Move Could Boost Man Utd Kitty

Fernandez, who emerged through Los Blancos’ academy ranks as a young and hungry youngster, transferred to Manchester United in the summer of 2020. He failed to crack into senior proceedings and, in fact, made zero appearances for the first team.

After spending the second half of the 2023/24 season in Portugal with SL Benfica, the club signed him on a permanent basis when he returned to England – and he’s since earned the admiration of chiefs at Real Madrid, according to Spanish publication AS Diario.

GIVEMESPORT sources revealed, in December 2024, that Manchester United had refused to rule out the chance of re-signing the nine-cap Spain U21 international, but it seems now that the Spanish giants are ahead in the queue.

In fact, a deal has reportedly been agreed between Real Madrid and Fernandez’s representatives and negotiations between Los Blancos and Benfica are at an advanced stage – and all parties are discussing the final price of the player.

The common consensus is that the 22-year-old will transfer to the Spanish capital for a fee between €40 and €50 million, which would see Manchester United – 13-time champions of the Premier League – receive a windfall of €18 million.

Amorim’s side, before the Portuguese head coach’s arrival, luckily inserted a buy-back option in his deal and, therefore, any money that Real Madrid pay the Lisbon-based club, €18 million of that will be given to the once-dominant force in England’s top flight.

In 2024/25 alone, the young Spaniard has been a crucial cog in Benfica’s well-oiled machine: across all competitions, he’s plundered four goals and five assists in 49 outings.

In terms of what the extra money could be spent on, Manchester United are edging closer to striking a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha, according to Fabrizio Romano, while Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is also on the club’s radar.
