Tyrick Mitchell plans to frame his FA Cup final shirt for his mum after Crystal Palace won their first major piece of silverware on Saturday.

The Eagles beat Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley via Eberechi Eze’s guided volley, ending their 120-year wait for major silverware.

Mitchell, 25, was brought up less than five miles from the site of Palace’s triumph and played for AFC Wembley in his childhood.

188 Palace appearances later, the full-back returned to where he was raised and claimed the first winner's medal of his career.

"It’s amazing to come back to the area I’m familiar with and win in front of my family, friends and the fans,” said Mitchell.

“It’s definitely the best day of my life. This is what we play for. We play to win medals and trophies, and we’re grateful to do it today.

“Everything is all a blur. I’ve watched previous FA Cup finals when the teams go up the steps and it’s always been something I have wanted to do.

“Doing it was just a surreal moment, it’s hard to explain and express that I was able to do that. It was beautiful. Something that I’ve dreamed of.

“I’m going to give the shirt to my Mum. I’m just happy. I haven’t been thinking, I’m just enjoying winning the FA Cup.”

The defender also had a special word for the match-winner, Eze, who scored at Wembley for the third consecutive game.

“He’s one of the best players in the Premier League, he shows it week in and week out. We are blessed to have him. It was a great goal. I'm happy for Ebs and the team.”
