Rangers have cut their manager shortlist to Steven Gerrard, Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti after parting ways with Barry Ferguson last week, talkSPORT has reported.
The Gers are reportedly still choosing from at least three names for the Ibrox vacancy, with Carlo Ancelotti’s son and Real Madrid assistant, Davide, named as ‘a leading contender’.
Rangers parted ways with Ferguson at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season on Sunday, and chief executive Patrick Stewart said the search for a new head coach is ‘progressing well’.
Ferguson was installed as interim boss in February after the sacking of Philippe Clement and oversaw just six wins from his 15 games in charge.

Ancelotti, Gerrard and Martin remain on shortlist
Russell Martin during his time in charge of Southampton
According to talkSPORT, Ancelotti is believed to be a ‘leading contender’ to take over at Ibrox in the coming weeks, ahead of ex-Premier League managers Gerrard and Martin.
The Italian tactician is expected to follow his father Carlo out of Real Madrid this summer and looks set to finally take on his first managerial role.
Rangers are also considering Gerrard among other names for the Ibrox job, almost four years after he left the club for Aston Villa in November 2021.
The former Liverpool midfielder enjoyed tremendous success with the Scottish giants and led them to the Premiership title in the 2020/21 season, the club’s only in the last 14 years.
Gerrard is a free agent after departing Saudi club Al-Ettifaq in January, similar to Martin, who was sacked by Southampton a month earlier.
The ‘exceptional’ 39-year-old left the Saints after winning just one Premier League game out of 16 this season.
