Chido Obi Man Utd Europa League Final omission vs Tottenham explained

Manchester United striker Chido Obi-Martin will miss the Europa League Final clash with Tottenham Hotspur despite featuring in training for United this week.

The Red Devils' youngster was pictured training alongside fellow forward Joshua Zirkzee, who is returning from a hamstring injury, but the young Danish striker is not eligible for the Europa League Final against Spurs.

United boss Ruben Amorim had the opportunity to add the youngster into their 25-man 'A' list for the Europa League before the UEFA deadline on February 6 prio to the knockout rounds starting, however Obi was not considered a senior player at the time.

Instead, they added January signings Patrick Dorgu and 18-year-old Ayden Heaven to the list in an attempt to boost Ruben Amorim's first-team squad in the competition.

In normal circumstances, clubs are able to add players to their 'B' list to play in UEFA competitions at any point up to 11pm the day before a game.

'B' list players are anyone who has been able to play for the club in question either for two continuous years from a player's 15th birthday or for two out of three years if the player has spent time at another club on loan.

However, the young striker does not meet the criteria as he only completed his move to Old Trafford from from Arsenal in October 2024.

As for Zirkzee, the Dutch forward was pictured back in training despite previously being ruled out for the season by the United boss last month. The 23-year-old limped off during the 4-1 defeat against Newcastle United with his season said to be over.

He is out for the season," the United boss told reporters in his press conference ahead of facing Lyon in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final last month. "He will not play again this season, let's prepare him for the next one.

"It is tough, he was improving in every aspect of the game. It is tough for any player but he has to be ready to recover."

Nonetheless, Zirkzee was pictured in training at Carrington this week ahead of the final against Spurs, in a major boost for United.
