Leeds United to 'rival' Brighton in £17m transfer for 22 goal star after 'head spin' claim

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Union Saint-Gilloise striker Promise David, but will face competition from Premier League rivals Brighton for his services.

The 23-year-old Canadian has scored 22 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for The Old Lady this season, setting up a further five goals for his teammates.

Sky Sports France claims the Whites are keen on a move for the striker who has a £17million asking price on his head. French side Lille are also reportedly keen on a move for David, to replace the outgoing Jonathan David.

With the fellow Canadian leaving the Ligue 1 club on a free this summer, Lille are in the market for a new striker, but have limited funds available to them given the 25-year-old will depart on a free transfer. The report claims Lille only have £10million to spend on a new striker this summer, opening the door for Leeds United and Brighton.

The player has reportedly made it clear that he wishes to explore his options this summer, despite the offer of a contract extension being placed on the table, with an 'exit voucher' presumably a release clause, inserted into the deal for 2026.

Leeds are understood to be in the market for a striker this summer to provide competition for Joel Piroe, while Brighton may look to bolster their attack if Joao Pedro leaves the Amex this summer. Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the Seagulls forward in recent weeks.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri wrote: "One thing is certain: there is no shortage of requests for Promise David, and they are starting to make his head spin... He says that the constant approaches from intermediaries give him the feeling that Belgium is already too small for a six-foot-one striker."

Daniel Farke will reportedly have a £100million war chest to bring in new faces at Elland Road this summer as they look to avoid relegation next season.
