Man United set for major cash injection thanks to £42m Real Madrid deal

Ineos are set to receive a significant payout thanks to Real Madrid’s interest in Alvaro Fernandez.

A major squad overhaul is expected at Manchester United this summer, but to make that happen, Ineos are planning to raise £100 million in sales.

Marcus Rashford is up for sale, while Antony and Jadon Sancho are also set to be sold in the summer. Alongside current players, though, United could also cash in on former players.

Alvaro Fernandez was linked to United as a potential left wing-back option, but instead United signed Patrick Dorgu in January to strengthen the position.

Since then, Fernandez has been linked with Real Madrid and a deal is inching closer and closer to completion.

Man United set to profit from Alvaro Fernandez to Real Madrid

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Real Madrid opened talks for Fernandez with the Benfica star becoming a top target for newly-appointed manager Xabi Alonso.

There were reports that Madrid wanted United to sign Fernandez, utilising the cheap buy-back option before selling him onto the Spanish giants for profit.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that Alvaro Fernandez wants to join Real Madrid but no bid has yet been made.

Manchester World point out that Fernandez has a £42m release clause at Benfica, and United also boast a significant sell-on clause.

They claim United will receive between 40% and 50% of Fernandez’s future fee, meaning Ineos could cash in on £16.8-£20 million this summer if the move goes ahead.

Alvaro Fernandez deal could help United sign £100m star

If Madrid go ahead with their Fernandez signing and United receive a £20 million payout, it would have a huge impact in terms of the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

It is no secret that United are short of cash and the transfer budget is limited by PSR restrictions.

However, a £20 million injection would have a much bigger impact than most think. Because of amortisation rules in the Premier League, clubs can spread the cost of transfer fees and contracts over a maximum of five years.

Therefore, Fernandez’s £20 million injection could theoretically help United afford a £100 million-rated signing this summer.
