In recent weeks there’s been repeat reports of Saudi clubs being in talks with Bruno Guimarães’ camp over a move to the country in the coming months.
Those claims are now being pushed by TNT Sports Brasil and their senior journalist Marcelo Bechler. This time the club being linked is Al-Ittihad, and it’s said there’s already talks being held between all parties involved.
Presumably that would mean Newcastle United, Al-Ittihad and those representing Bruno Guimarães. The Brazilian has a contract with the Magpies lasting until June 2028, with his release clause put at €120m.
These claims are coming from a good source, but there still feels something questionable. Unless Newcastle United are actively trying to sell the 27-year-old then it wouldn’t make sense for a Saudi club to try and snatch a player away, given the links and the drama it could cause.
In addition, Guimarães will surely be desperate to play a part under Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, and he’s far likelier to catch the Italian’s attention in the Premier League.
Still, there’s Brazilian insistence on this one so it’s worth keeping an eye on.
