Gary Neville loves Man United target who is perfect for Old Trafford, but has 'fear' for £30m Liam Delap deal

Gary Neville has mixed opinions on Manchester United’s summer transfer targets.

Ineos are wasting no time getting started on Manchester United’s summer transfer business, with strong rumours developing before the season has already ended.

There will be a squad overhaul this summer and Ineos want to raise £100 million in sales to fund the incomings.

The top priority will be strengthening the attacking options and United are advancing on a £62.5m Matheus Cunha deal. On top of that, United are targeting Liam Delap for £30m now his relegation clause is active.

United legend Gary Neville was asked about United’s top two targets, and his views were mixed.

Gary Neville on Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap to Man United

United still have plenty to play for this season with the Europa League final taking place on Wednesday evening, but behind the scenes, Ineos are already preparing for 2025/26.

It seems likely that both Cunha and Delap could end up at Old Trafford in the summer, but Neville has some concerns about the latter.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “I think he’s [Cunha] a good player. To see someone with that sort of level of running ability and legs, I think it suits Old Trafford.

“With Delap, I think he has a level of potential and ability, but my fear is the expectation of him coming.

“The pressure on another young player to lead that line for United. We’ve already seen Zirkzee and Hojlund struggle this season.”

Liam Delap will face Rasmus Hojlund pressure at Man United

Neville’s concerns about Liam Delap are understandable given that the 22-year-old has only had one full season as a Premier League player.

Delap has starred in the Premier League for Ipswich Town with 12 goals this season, but he is still very unproven.

United took a gamble with the £64 million deal for Rasmus Hojlund, and his form has been disastrous this season. If Delap arrives, he will share the responsibility to lead United’s line with Hojlund, but he risks falling into the same problems.

United would be better off going for a more experienced marksman up front with Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres both linked with a move to Old Trafford.
