Report: Four Teams In The Race To Sign Aston Villa Star Ahead Of Potential Shock Exit

There were some interesting scenes after Aston Villa's final home game of the season, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez appearing to wish an emotional goodbye to the home supporters after their 2-0 victory over Spurs on Friday night.

The Argentine was in a tearful state after the final whistle, leading to suggestions that he is on his way out of the club. There had been few rumours that Martinez would leave Villa Park this summer, although speculation has now gone into overdrive that the two-time Yashin Trophy is now set to depart.

As to where he could end up, it seems as though there are currently four clubs in the running.

Four Clubs Reportedly Lining Up Bids For Aston Villa Star

AS are reporting that Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are all interested in signing Emiliano Martinez this summer.

Aston Villa will be under some financial pressure over the coming weeks, with profit & sustainability rules meaning that they could be forced to sell one of their most valuable assets in order to comply with the regulations. That will be especially true if they miss out on Champions League football for next season.

From the player's point of view, he may well feel ready to move on having spent the last five years at Aston Villa.

Chelsea and Barcelona are both likely to sign new goalkeepers this summer, with the two clubs having struggled in that position this season. Manchester United could also opt to move on from Andre Onana, while Atletico Madrid could be on the hunt for a replacement for Jan Oblak, who has been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital.

Aston Villa have already been linked with a handful of replacements for Martinez, a list including Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
