The Cannes Film Festival is known not only as a celebration of world cinema but also as a platform to showcase all kinds of creative fashions — and for Spike Lee, that means repping the New York Knicks even when he’s thousands of miles away from Madison Square Garden.

Like the zoot suit style, which originated in the African American community in Harlem and found popularity among other ethnic communities, Lee’s suit featured a long coat and loose, tapered pants. He also wore a hat, associated with the zoot suit, which was also blue and orange. Additional accessories included glasses and bracelets showcasing the Knicks colors, a silver Jordan necklace and more jewelry.
Lee completed his look with a pair of Spizike Jordans, a style first launched in 2006, which blends qualities of five different Jordan sneakers in tribute to Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It” character Mars Blackmon, who appeared in Air Jordan commercials. Modeling the style almost two decades after its release, Lee looked to be wearing an all-black Jordan Spizike Low, which retails for $160. The Spizike takes elements from the Air Jordan 3, 4, 5, 6 and 20, with features including the midsole, outsole and elephant print detailing of the 3 and the wingstrap from the 4, among many other details.

Lee repped the Knicks and Jordan earlier this month at the Met Gala, donning the Air Jordan 3 “Black Cat” sneakers, a different all-black style, for the occasion.
While the director was just at his film premiere in the South of France, it would be no surprise if he is seated courtside for the Knicks’ first game against the Pacers at MSG on Monday.
